Assign an Activity to a Risk
Assign activities to project risks to identify in the project schedule when the risk can potentially impact. This information is used during the quantitative risk analysis to simulate the impact of risks on project activities during the Monte Carlo analysis.
Threat and opportunity risk impact values are applied to their associated activities during the analysis. If no activities are assigned to a risk, its impact values are applied to the project directly. Weather risk non-working estimates are also applied to the activities assigned to each risk. Weather risks without activity assignments are not included in risk analysis calculations.
After a quantitative risk analysis has been run, the results calculated for each activity are saved for the activity. Results that are calculated for activities include pre-response and post-response activity dates and durations, as well as the criticality index, which measures the probability that an activity will be part of the critical path. Activity results are recorded in various charts on the Risk Analysis page. You can also view activity risk data in columns or Gantt bars on the Activities page.
To assign an activity to a risk:
- In the object selector, select ﱆ Project or Program, and then select a project or a program from the list.
- From the Main Menu, select Risk, and then select Risk Register.
- In the table, select the risk, and select the Impacted Activities detail window.
- Select Assign.
- In the Select Activity dialog box, in the Available section, select activities and select Add from Available to add them to the Selected section.
- Select Select.
- Select Save.
Tips
- You cannot assign activities to program risks, but you can assign them to project risks in the program context.
- For Level of Effort and WBS Summary type activities, weather risks are ignored and not included in the risk analysis. Cost impact is still included.
- The schedule impact of a risk mapped to Level of Effort and WBS Summary type activities is ignored and not included in the risk analysis. Cost impact is still included.
