Configure the Waterline View on the Budget Planning Page

Display a waterline to help analyze the project group within the portfolio to assist you in making decisions on selecting projects for the budget plan. A waterline sorts projects in the portfolio into two separate groups based on the defined constraint limit. Projects above the waterline are those that collectively meet the constraint limit value; all other projects appear below the waterline.

To configure the waterline view:

  1. In the object selector, select Portfolio, and then select View Portfolios List.
  2. Select a portfolio name.
  3. From the Main Menu, select Cost and Funds, and then select Budget Planning.
  4. From the Layout menu, select Waterline View.

Note: When Waterline View is enabled for Program View, the waterline level will include both projects and programs in the criteria. Programs (including all projects in the program) will compete against other programs and those projects not included in a program. Sorting applies to projects and programs together.

  5. In the grid toolbar, select Settings.
  6. In the Settings panel, select the Waterline Options tab.
  7. In the Waterline Level section:
    1. Select options for the following fields to configure the waterline level:
      1. Limit: The field used as a parameter when setting the waterline level limit.
      2. Is: Determines the logical relationship between the Limit field and your entry in the associated Value field.
      3. Value: The limit used to determine which projects and programs meet the defined parameter value and which do not meet the parameters and therefore fall below the waterline.
    2. Select Only include above waterline level projects automatically to automatically select only the projects that meet your waterline preference in your budget planning scenario. When this option is selected, you cannot select any projects that fall below the waterline unless you force them in. You also cannot unselect any projects that are above the waterline unless you force them out.

Note: When selected for the Program View, Only include above waterline level projects automatically applies to all projects in a program; projects are selected or unselected as part of the program.

  8. In the Sort By section, specify the first and optionally second and third fields used to rank and sort the projects.
  9. Select Apply.
