Manage Task Constraints on the Work Plan Page

Task constraints indicate the items that need to be addressed before work on the task can begin. When a task constraint is present, a status icon displays on the task card in the hopper or on the task card in the planning board. Clicking on the constraint icon opens the Task Details dialog box on the Constraints tab for full details and menu options to manage the constraint. Constraint details include the status of the constraint, the date it is needed by, who is responsible for addressing it, and the type of constraint. Icons next to the Date Needed field indicate if the constraint is overdue or needed within the next 7 days.

Use the Constraints tab in the Task Details dialog box to monitor the current status of all constraints assigned to a task. To only view tasks on the page that have at least one constraint, select Tasks With Constraints from the Constraints quick filter.

Assign a Task Constraint

To assign a constraint to a task on the Work Plan page:

  1. In the object selector, select Project, select View Projects List, and then select a project name.
  2. From the Main Menu, select Tasks, and then select Work Plan.
  3. Right-click a task in the hopper or planning board, and then select View Task Details. In the Task Details dialog box, select the Constraints tab.
  4. Select Assign. In the Select Constraints dialog box, search for a constraint in the Available list, and then select one or more constraints to associate with the current task.
  5. Select Select.
  6. Select Save.
  7. All changes made to this page are saved automatically.

Edit or Remove a Task Constraint

To edit a task constraint on the Work Plan page:

  1. In the object selector, select Project, select View Projects List, and then select a project name.
  2. From the Main Menu, select Tasks, and then select Work Plan.
  3. In the hopper or planning board, hover over and select the Constraints status icon on a task card to open the Constraints tab in the Task Details dialog box. You can also access the Constraints tab by right-clicking a task in the hopper or planning board, and then selecting View Task Details.
  4. In the Task Details dialog box, select the Constraints tab and edit the Constraint as needed in the Constraints detail window:
    • View a constraint: Select a constraint. You will be taken to the Constraints page.
    • Assign constraints: Select one or more constraints, and then select the Context menu. Select Assign to assign the constraint to another task.
    • Remove constraints: Select one or more constraints, and then select the Context menu. Select Remove to remove and delete the selected constraint association to the task.

Note: Removing a constraint from a task on the Work Plan page does not delete the constraint, it only removes the association to the task.
