Configure Gantt Chart Settings
Configure Gantt chart settings to determine how the chart will display.
You can configure Gantt chart settings on the following pages:
- Activities
- Task List
Note: View options may vary per page. The title of the Settings icon may be specific to the grid or detail window that the icon pertains to.
To configure Gantt chart settings:
- Navigate to a page, and then select Settings.
- In the Manage Views or Settings panel, select the Gantt tab.
- In the Show section, define your chart display options:
- Data date line: Determines whether to show the project data date in the Gantt chart.
- Relationship lines (Activities page only): Determines whether to show activity relationship lines in the Gantt chart.
- Critical relationships: Determines whether to show relationships for activities that must start or finish on time to ensure the project completes on schedule.
- Non-driving relationships: Determines whether to show relationships for activities not on the longest path to project completion.
- Hand-offs (Task List page only): Determines whether to show hand-offs in the Gantt chart.
- Sight Lines: Determines whether to show lines of demarcation for the selected timescale.
- Non-working time shading: Determines whether to gray out time periods in which no work will be performed, as defined by the project calendar.
- Progress Spotlight (Activities page only): Enables the Progress Spotlight highlighting feature in the Gantt chart.
- In the Timescale section, define a timescale for the Gantt chart:
- Calendar Dates: Select Show Calendar Dates, and then further specify the timescale options:
- Week/Day: The Gantt chart is divided into weeks which are then divided into days.
- Month/Week: The Gantt chart is divided into months which are then divided into weeks.
- Quarter/Month: The Gantt chart is divided into quarters which are then divided into months.
- Year/Month: The Gantt chart is divided into years which are then divided into months.
- Year/Quarter: The Gantt chart is divided into years which are then divided into quarters.
- Reporting Period (Activities page only): The Gantt chart is divided into the units set by the reporting cycle. This option is only available in a project view on the Activities page, and a reporting cycle must be defined for the project.
(Reporting Period timescale only) For the Reporting Period Label option, select Custom label only to display the reporting period as the label on the Gantt chart (such as WK3). When deselected, the label uses the dates (such as Sat 24 - Fri 30).
- Ordinal Dates (Activities page only): On the Activities page, you can display ordinal dates as a more flexible timescale option outside of the current schedule. Applying this option displays date intervals as sequential numbers, beginning from the ordinal start date specified in the settings. Ordinal dates that precede the ordinal start date display a negative number. Depending on the context of a project or a program, terminology may differ and is noted below. Select Show Ordinal Dates, and then further specify the timescale options:
- Start: Select a timescale for the start date.
Project Planned Start (Project)/Earliest Planned Start (Program): The Gantt chart displays data on the project's planned start date, or the program's earliest planned start date.
Project Planned Finish (Project)/ Earliest Planned Finish (Program): The Gantt chart displays data on the project's planned finish date, or the program's earliest planned finish date.
Data Date (Project)/ Earliest Data Date (Program): The Gantt chart displays the first data date for the project or the earliest data date for a program.
Current Date: The Gantt chart displays data on the current date.
Current Week: The Gantt chart displays data for the current week.
Current Month: The Gantt chart displays data for the current month.
Custom Date: The Gantt chart displays data on a custom date.
- Timescale Interval: This value sets the duration of time for the proposed schedule. Selectable options are Day, Week, Month, Quarter, or Year.
- Show Interval Row: This option displays the selected timescale interval row above each ordinal date row.
Note: If Show Calendar Dates is selected, you will not be able to select or deselect Show Interval Row.
- Custom Prefix: Select this option to create a custom prefix for your interval on the Gantt chart.
- Start: Select a timescale for the start date.
- Calendar Dates: Select Show Calendar Dates, and then further specify the timescale options:
- Apply the view:
In the Manage Views panel:
- Select Save. When selected, you are saving all changes to the current view.
- Select Save As. When selected, you can create a new Personal, Project, or Workspace view with a new name in the Save View as window.
- Select Apply. When selected, you are returned to the grid. The grid displays any changes you have made; however, those changes are not saved. To save changes select Save or Save As in the View list.
- Select Reset.
- Select Close.
In the Settings panel:
- Select Save.
