Specify Role Demand for a Project
Use the Resource Demand page to enter demand units on the workspace roles assigned to the projects in your portfolio. These units will appear at the portfolio level during portfolio resource planning. After a portfolio's resource plan is approved, the approved units will be displayed on this page as allocated units.
Specify role demand by entering time units or FTE value for each role. You can display fields for role Demand, Commitment, and Proposed Allocation costs to further inform your resource demand planning decisions. Role costs are read-only and are based on each role's workspace-level Price/Unit 1 value set for the current availability period.
To specify role demand:
- In the object selector, select ﱆ Project, select View Projects List, and then select a project name.
- From the Main Menu, select Resources, and then select Resource Demand.
- In the table, select a role.
- In the role's Demand row, select a Start date. You can optionally set the role's Finish date to calculate its Duration, or enter Duration to calculate the Finish date. These calculations are performed after the page is saved.
- Enter demand units in one of the following ways:
- Total: On the role's Demand row, in the Total column, enter the total labor units required. The labor units are spread between the role's start and finish dates, according to the role calendar.
- Timescale: In the Demand row, enter the labor units in the appropriate timescale interval.
Note: The Timescale setting can be changed in the Settings dialog box on the Timescale tab or by right-clicking on the timescale in the table and selecting an option.
- FTE: Enter the full-time equivalents needed for the entire period between the start and end dates. The labor units are populated on the timescale.
Note: Select FTE to display role units in the full-time equivalent values of the timescale interval.
- Select Save.
After saving, the role's demand costs are calculated from its demand units.
Tips
- Individual role rates may change over time. To ensure the most up-to-date role costs are displayed, select Actions , and then select Recalculate Cost. A notification displays when the process is complete.
- Demand units that are entered in a timescale interval are distributed to lower intervals or rolled up to higher intervals according to the role's calendar availability.
- Role units that have been proposed are shown in the Proposed Allocation row. Role units that have been reviewed and committed on the portfolio-level Resource Planning page are shown in the Allocation row. The Over/Under row displays the difference between a role's Allocation units and Demand units, and indicates whether a role is overallocated or underallocated for the time period.
